i bought a sugar glider and it lasted about 12 hours before i had to call and return her... i ended up being allergic to it... and i brought it home tried to interact with her for most the night... started breaking out in hives where ever the nails touched skin..:( so i woke up and called the lady back.. and at first she gave me a hard time but she did offer a 24 hour return/exhange policy... but then said thats only if it dies or is sick... to make a long story short she ended up taking her back and paying me my full refund... i felt bad so i gave her a tip..

i think i also learned how much work they are! even if i wasnt allergic to it i dont think im home enough for it thats why i considered it a impulse buy... but i think i did the right thing....

Hey! I have the EXACT same issue with Sugar Gliders. Back in the day, I worked at a pet store and had to handle them periodically...they'd crawl on my arms and every point that their claws came into contact would swell up red...needless to say I stopped showing them to people...breaking out in an allergic reaction isn't the best selling point ;)

I miss mine but they need a lot of attention and with work I wasn't able to devote enough time to it...

Suger gliders are so awesome! I have wanted a pair forever, I plan to get a male/female pair when I move out of my parents house.

Too bad you were allergic! Suger gliders are amazing pets, and it is just too bad you didnt get to expierence them fully.

If you do get them, I would recommend a harem of females to one male. I had a pair and the male refused to let the female eat, even with separate feeding dishes at opposite ends of the enclosure. He would also just generally intimidate and abuse her. I eventually ended up giving them to a breeder who could house many of them together.

My skin reacts to them the same way. I think it's because they are absolutely filthy creatures with a lot of bacteria on their nails. Rats, mice and other rodents (which the gliders are not) have good personal hygienic habits, their enclosures get dirty but they keep clean. Gliders seem to have no such
inclinations towards personal hygiene, defecating all over themselves.

Other than that, I had a lot of fun with them. They used to jump off of the top stair and glide around!

Thanks for the info! I might just get two females, because then I wont have to worry about fighting, or them reproducing. Althought, having baby gliders would be cool, I think it would just be better not to get a breeding pair when starting with gliders.

Definitely a good idea.
