I'm thinking about a clown knife for my 120 (48x24x24).. Kinda debating between the black ghost or brown knife but I'm open to suggestions as well.

I'm looking for one that will not be so shy that it hides 99% of the time. The tank will be lightly planted with driftwood and rocks as well. Pool sand for substrate.

Tankmates would include a red wolf fish, 2 senegals, rope fish, tire track eel and a few schooling fish such as congo tetras or something.

I guess my biggest question is which ones don't hide all the time?

No knife pro but i would say a Clown knife

idk anything abotu wolf fish so i am not considering them...

with a 120, clowns/royals are out.

but all knives hide for a while. IME, bgk hide a little less than AKF once they get comfortable and bigger, so go with them.

its taken my AFK almost a year to finally get comfortable coming out into the open with their being food around lol

hmm.. skip the browns.. no personality and a tormenting growth rate.. Bgk is a very entertaining fish given the right care.. and just about your size judging from your tank..

a CK WILL sooner or later reach 30".. that is a lot of fish! on the other hand.. they have the oddball look, temper, growth and personality.. I bet you will get attached to it and upgrade for it..
if you have no plans for an upgrade do not get the clown.. :)

there are ofcourse other knife fish but in my experience they are pretty unknown of and therefor hard to care for..

good luck with your decision!

Out of these 3 bgk brown and clown, I would go with a bgk they are the most entertaining. None are real real active imo. Brown don't have a lot of personality and are quite shy and the clown will just get way too big for your tank, they are real neat I like their patterns, but just too big.

Upgrades are always an option ;)

Are CK more active then the bgk?

The red wolf is aggressive towards food but thats about all. I guess it could change when it reach's full adulthood but from what I've seen in the 3-4 months I've had him he is fairly mellow and does not mind company.

I'm not too concerned about it being shy but I would enjoy seeing it from time to time. What makes the bgk more entertaining?

i have Black Ghost knife and Clown Knife... the BG is 14 inches ...awesome size and always out and always active... can live a wonderful happy life in 120gal set up... ideal perfect... i love my CK...but he will need a tank upgrade soon... he is 15 inches in a 125gal... he has lots of personality and beauty.. here they are ... :D

I don't know anything about clowns, but I have a bgk and an african. The BGK is alot more active. He hid alot when I first got him, but now he doesn't even sleep in his pvc pipe. He just lays on a piece of driftwood in full view in the middle of the day and swims around constantly when he's not doing that. I catch the african out sometimes, especially when there's food around, but any sudden movement and he goes back to hiding.
