suggest bright colored peaceful cichlid for pond

Not a cichlid, but how about a white giant gourami? Awesome wet pet!
 
I have found black substrate muddies the colors of of many CA/SA Cichlids. I tends to bring out the colors in africans I have no idea why. I think you would probably do well with red severums or Nicuraguans.
 
I don't personally like the look of them from the side, but albino Oscars would look nice from the top and stand out. Or if you provided some rocks for refuge you could even try establishing a colony for electric yellow labs, etc. If you kept the arowanas well fed and gave them a bunch of rocks I bet it would work.
