I want something small that is a good house dog. I like Pit Bulls but they are just too big. I was thinking maybe a Smooth Fox terrier. I don't want anything tiny or poodleish. Something that is very trainable.

i know you said nothing poodlish......but i have a labradoodle......the smartest dog ive ever had.....and ive had 5......my friend has one to its very smart

Get an Australian Kelpie, bout the size of a border Collie, but smarter!!!!!

Shiba Inu. Easiest dog to house and crate train. Just sheds ALOT in the summer. They are a very independent breed. Big dog in a small body.

perhaps you better explain you definition of tiny and small, as they are considered synonyms by many.

pug.. stay away from most hunting(that catch or flush the animal, retrievers are fine) as they probably wouldnt be good dogs for small houses. noisy and constantily wanting to hunt.

staffordshire terrier.

Those get the same size as pit bulls, don't they?

How about a Beagle. They are extremely smart and playful.

I'd like to avoid massive shedding if I can.
