From my experience I think male convicts can cope with other aggressive cichlids sometimes and specially at breeding time they might even chase bigger ones away. But females along wouldn't have a chance to survive among aggressive cichlids. Longtime before my old jaguar killed a 5" male convict and the oscars and others that i'm having now had killed a my female convict recently who had managed to go through the divider. Anyway I had kept convicts even with carps without any probs.
Btw how big neets would grow?

Theres a tank set up with lots of convicts swimming amongst Piranha...that was a big tank with lots of hiding places and cover for the convicts. its all about safety in numbers and agility over their protagonists... get the mix right and it'll work.

Neets can reach 5 inches in males and they are really amazing... they make Convicts look like pussy cats. Neets have one or two common names, one being the Pygmy Green Eyed cichlid. When in a passive mood they are a grey color with a single vertical bar down the centre of their body, however when they turn black with a white bar down the centre the other fish better beware.

Also might add.... it would be a great talking point having this huge monster fish (a Dovii) sharing with the baddest little cichlids (Neets). They also happen to live together in the wild believe it or not.

I don't think they would last for 8+ years with a mature Dovii. I bet they would get picked off one by one sooner or later. In the wild......that's different. A wild fish can claim and hold any territory that they can hold, with plenty of running room. In a tank once they hit the side of the tank, games over. A 400 gallon tanks only has so much territory.....that a Dovii will claim. I'm not saying every single Dovii will not tolerate other fish for the life but there are not many examples.

Anyone whos owned Neets would think differently.

If you provide adequate hiding places and cover Neets will survive.... I used to keep them with a huge Red Devil and for a time a Large pair of Festae. The Dovii would hardly notice the Neets let alone conside them a threat to his terrotory ;)

If you provide the Neets with little caves and clefts that the huge jaws of the Dovii won't reach they'll be fine. I know its not the safest existance for the little fish but Neets are very prolific aswell so 6 will soon become 50.... Then the Dovii will have a nice natural resource of live food if he can catch the little buggers.

The perfect Neet Substrate...

Another example of Neets living with much larger fish

Nice videos. I think anyone who has mature Dovii for years would think differently.

If you want to cram a large tank full of solid hiding places....maybe, I don't know. I know Dovii are pretty determined and if it can be moved, shuffled, knocked down and anything in between a male will. Unlike the videos you posted. All those hiding places will be moved.

A mature male Dovii hardly notice, I don't doubt that.

Good idea.......a good fresh food source as they get picked off one by one ;).

I'm sure with your example above, lots of hiding places in a monster tank some would survive.

Dogofwar has mentioned these little hell raisers before. They seem like some little guys with a monster attitude that can back it up.

I need to keep this spices sooner or later.
