Suggestions for a breeding pair in a 55?

Unless you're totally stuck on SA cichlids, I would reocomend African Mbuna, in light of your water conditions and experience level. A rock pile and a group of Labidochromis Caeruleus (yellow labs) would be an excellant starter fish.

african cichlids do like 8.0-9.0 pH! and it doesnt matter too much on the hardness! but yes labs can be pretty easy!
 
Jewels are a great place to start, look great aswell. Kribs are easy, angels are easy once they get the hang of it. Something a bit harder but Blue rams are meant to be great fun to breed. I got told a breeding pair of GTs would be ok in a 55. How 'bout something not a cichlid like catfish, gourami or barbs.

My Jewels, the trick for me wouldn't be breeding them but getting them to stop, I have atleast 3 pairs going at any given time.

yea there is just a great wealth of easy to breed cichlids!

for other things to breed besides cichlids! bristlenose catfish! i am trying to start on this endever! i started out with common bn;s but ended up with 2 males and one was killed!

so now i haved ordered a male and female L183(white seam) from exotci finds! havent come yet and its been about a week! i am getting ancious!
