Our 180g tank which currently has 1 pacu, 1 oscar, 1 blackbelt, 1 convict, 1 cichlosoma salvini and 1 giraffe cat. Our Pacu especially seems overly hungry. We feed twice a day morning and night. Mornnig is flakes and nighttime is cichlid sticks and protein pellets. We also hand feed Scylla our pacu grapes cut in half. Scylla eats romain lettuce as well.

The Pacu is about 18 inches, everbody else is fully grown out.

Do any of you have any feeding suggestions to help us fill up these monster fish?

Hungry fish owners....

Pacus love slices of Zucchini the MOST! ALso small sliced carrots raw.. they like to chew.. so peanuts on occasion as a treat.. the grapes are good.. they are vegetarians and love almost all veggies but i only fed the ones that did not spoil the water quality.. small pieces of raw potatoe... even sweet potatoe..

Thanks I'll give that a try, would never have thought of that. I know the 180g is undersized for the pacu baby steps... She just moved into it from a 55gal...

my pacu eat everything. prawns, cucumber, muscles, dried foods, krill, sand eels, small silversides. they eat plastic plants, equipment, each other other fish (mid sized panga) never seen them turn their nose up at anything. maybe yours is different because he's on his own but mine are like wolves at feeding time. im gonna level with you......... never seem full.

keep up the pacu love

As big as pacu are they are slow when it comes to being fast or aggressive against other tank mates in the race for food..so giving these foods to the pacu should help his hunger since most of the other fish in the tank will not be interested in this food and will willingly let the pacu eat...:D they don't call them gentle giants for nothing..

So given on the list of foods, i assume its safe to give them various types of nuts, such as pecans and walnuts? What about roots as well?

you want to give nuts sparingly only.. they are protein and a couple for chewing only .. once in awhile
