Suggestions for buying poly filter floss or a substitute?

well now, it may be my bad for mistakenly thinking poly fill & filter floss are one in the same.

mind if you can explain the difference so I don't continue to assume the same?

I've been using aqua pure filter floss - that's all I thought was available at least at LFS or online.

with the great feedback here for wally mart world, I got a great substitution for filter floss, right?

either way - my mis-understanding or not, my posting request has been answered.

A polyfilter removes heavy metals, phosphates, etc. from the tank... it's part of of your chemical filtration. Polyfill just traps debris and is used for mechanical filtration.

thks, I never even knew this existed, never saw it before & it removes all that? isn't that a wonder media? why aren't more professing its use?

where can one get it? & how much?
 
polyfilter is expencive but it is great i wouldnt be able to keep my tank as clean without it

filter floss is so cheap why would you want to save $1 on it
 
I think I save a bit more

$4.95 14oz + shipping (I think at petsmart it's $6.99 so 54cent/oz after tax)

$2.67 20oz (walmart - 14.4cents/oz after tax)

I plan to use/change my filter floss more often. so on a lb for lb basis, it's a nice savings:

16oz =
aqua pure = $8.64
walmart = $2.31

save almost $6.33/lb! not bad for this fishy tip.

hey! I hope you're not too insensitive with other posters. plse don't belittle us we of lesser means.

I had been unemployed for 2yrs & expenses mounting & fin'l & personal stress at home. but with one of my catering checks I "had" to spend it on re-starting my hobby as my "get-away hide-away" relaxing be alone time. sort of a mid-life crisis. had undergone a tough time.

so any savings I/we can get to support our addiction the better for us. guess $ comes easy to you.

not looking to pick a fight but plse be more sensitive to others if not knowing their personal situations or personal intentions.

so instead of a new car or new house, I can buy 3gal. of gas with the savings or buy 2 more gal. of milk for the kids. get the point?

plse do note - I shouldn't have re-started the hobby knowing the probs we were having, but it beats counseling! & less $ too!

glad you can splurge. I long for those days again.
