Suggestions for "Fish Room"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You want a drain in the floor in case you overflow or in case a tank breaks. Along that line of thought, tile or bare concrete floor- you don't want a carpet soaked in fish water.

my suggestion: take your time, get what you want when you find it. getting cool fish that other people like will be wasting your money.

Set aside a space for RO Units. If you have a fish room, you WILL want RO water sometimes down the road. Three at 50gpd would be good! ^^

Well here is what I've worked up for a general layout. The pond will have bench type seating at the edges. I don't plan for much sitting, all tanks shown will be 42" to the bottom of the tanks(leaves room for more misc tanks below) The sink and R.O. water storage will go in a utility closet across the hallway.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.:)

i'd make more room between the 180 and 350...you are gunna need to get to the back sometime and its hell getting OVER the tanks.

Check with your local Home Depot. They carry a Z-Beam rack made by Edsal. It's 72"x18"x72" and can hold up to 7500 lbs. evenly distributed on the the three shelves. The lady at Edsal told me that Home Depot can special order anything that is in Edsal's catalogue. They are really sturdy and will save you the time and expense of overbuilding stands.
I looked into Z-beam, but want to go with a finished look. I'm thinking it will be better to build custom wood stands.

I agrree, I will have access to the back of the 350g(on the layout, above the 350 and to the left of the 180) there is a 2' x 5' void. The only problem is i'll have to crawl under the 180g to get to it. The demensions are set due to the layout of my basement, I can gain a couple inches depending how I frame the 14'5" wall though.

I'll still have some sorta tank in the bedroom, but no more in the closet. I've got to get new pics of the planted aro and discus tank, also the rest of the tanks all my old pics are a few months old.
