Considering getting a wet pet for my 75G (48"x18"x24"tall). Personally I think putting something like an oscar/midevil/flowerhorn in such a tank for life is rather tight for space, so I'm looking for something with a similar character to a male midevil/flowerhorn but just a bit smaller. Something that will absolutely top out at somewhere between 8" and 10".

ANy thoughts ?

I do quite like fish which like digging BTW !

If you want color without the huge size try Herichthys Carpintis "Chairel". Rapps has some now at 2.5 inches. This is my favorite Carpintis Variant but he also has the Escondido race too.

A good suggestion. But what is the real max size of carpintis. Online profiles range from quoting between 7" and 12" as the max size.

Well an Oscar or Flowerhorn would do rather well in a 75g as a wet pet - in that same size range would be a Gold/Silver Saum, Texas (Red, Green) and there are several vieja that top out around that size as well.

For something a bit smaller you have JD/EBJD, Nic, Chocolate, Sal (could do a breeding pair in a 75) and such.

I have never owned one that got over 10 inches but they do get a bit thick. Very owner responsive and mine loved to dig and the colors or the Chairel race are amazing, but the Escondido race is very nice too.

Jack Dempsey.

Maybe a Green Terror or Carpintis would be a good choice. Neither grow as big as a Trimac or Midas but have good personality. Heck even some type of Severum might fit the bill, they're usually not as aggressive as the CA's but the ones I've owned had a super personality.
