I'm looking for a powerhead to add some surface agitation to a large (330g) acrylic tank. I have always liked the Hydor Koralia pumps, but I don't believe any of those have strong enough magnets for this tank - the acrylic is 1" thick. I'd like the powerhead to be as small as possible, so that it doesn't stick out like crazy, and yet still give some good flow. Can anyone offer suggestions?

I've heard great things about those, but they're a little pricy. I think even a used one might be steep. My other limitation is that there isn't much room between the wall and the tank, which is why the Koralias were appealing - they have that very thin outer magnet. The Vortech would be too bulky (unless I cut into the drywall)...

Perhaps I could attach something to the inside of the top of the tank? There is bracing around the edge that is much less thick. Would need a pump that operates at a 90 degree angle however, as I don't want the flow to be aimed at the bottom of the tank.

hello I have a rio 1700 in my 135g with big fish I wouldn't try this power head with any tank smaller than 120gallon, also askoll powerhead802 works good and don't look bad.

I don't know much about it, but read some of the salt forums. Those guys use tons of circulation pumps and it looks like it is a common practice to drill part way into a tank to use these magnet mounted pumps. I bought the only 2 used MP60 Vortech pumps I found. They were still pricy used.

What I did with my magnetic powerhead in my concrete 1400 is I just coated a piece of sheet metal in pond armor and siliconed it to the wall of the tank. Works awesome.

You could throw in a mag drive. Not exactly a power head but its powerful and you can plum it however you like. Vortechs are sweet but so damn $$$$.
