My 8x4x3 plywood build is in the end stages and I now need to buy a pump. I would like as close to 10x turnover as I can get, would like to keep it around $500 or so, and ideally from Canada so I can get killed on exchange, duty, and shipping. Can anyone help? Was thinking of pulling trigger boxing day. Thanks.

don't go for the 10x turnover through the sump, use a sump pump and circulation fans

Hey Matt, care to elaborate a bit? As to why mainly, is it cost savings? A bit more details would help so I get an idea of the concept, btw I am using 3 55g food grade barrels as the filter, no sump technically, or maybe it is idk

I am a big fan of redundancy, I would go with two pumps in case one fails while you are on vacation or something. That way you still have some circulation until you can replace the failed one. That's just me but I feel it is worth it to have two pumps

Absolutely, no doubt that is how I run my other 2 setups, it could end up being cheaper, this is my ideal solution. Any specific ones that would fit well?

flowing a large volume of water through the sump alone doesn't necessarily provide better filtration, you can slow down the turnover through the sump to save money and it will allow more contact time with the water and media (may need to look into that). You could run 2 pumps like you want but then add maybe 2 Koralia 1500's in the tank as well. Figuratively you should get 5x turnover through your sump and 5x turnover through the Koralias. You could still go with the high turnover through the sump if that's the way you want to go. I'm not sure what type of sump but if your doing K1 then the higher flow fill help you circulate the media

Cool man, ya I'm going to toss a 3600 gph powerhead in the tank, one of the barrels is a drip wet dry, one is a k1 reactor, and the last is the equipment chamber. Thanks for your input, i dont think my current 400 breaks 5x turnover with pumps and they seem to be doing just fine.
