Since most 30 gal. tanks have a 12 1/2"x 30" footprint you are limited. This is a South American tank. It should be nicely planted.

10 Cardinal tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi), to 1 1/4" long, active schooling mid-water fish. pic by Nilsson

This tank will be active, colorful, and low stress.

Well I've got a 30 gallon tall tank. With a whisper power filter 30.
I've got three fish in the tank. The one goldfish is about 5 or six inches, another goldfish that is about an inch and a half, and one zebra danio. I had to take hte zebra danio out of my freshwater community tank because I figured out that i had overstocked so I moved him to the goldfish tank. Last week I did a 50% water change and it did help. But it's still kind of cloudy and has a green tint to it. I assume it's because of the goldfish being their natural messy self. Although the green tint is probably algae. The tank isn't near any windows. I turn the aquarium light on in the morning and turn it off in the evening. The light is usually on for 8 to 9 hours a day. Is that too long?

I really like guppy's idea with some plants! feel free to replace the apisto's with the rams that you like and for the plants start with some of the anubias species and the wendtii...

Here is a pic of a breeding pair of Rams (by Helen Hunt), they only get to 3 1/2" but I am not sure if you could keep 2 pair or just one pair in your 30g, I have never kept them.

i have 2 blue rams in my 55 gallon, i think you could keep more pairs, they live better in pairs i know that much, so the more the merrier. 4 in a 30 gallon shouldn't be to much.

as for caring for them, they havent required anything more from me, just feed the tropical flakes, blood worms, and shrimp pellets <- thats the combo that goes in, not purely for the rams, but thats just what i put in the tanks daily. :)
so they seem pretty easy to care for, from my experience.

HOW ABOUT SOME ANGELS AND MAYBE SOME RAMS????
they are not hard to take care of and they will look good and maybe make it a planted tank. I think it could be stunning !!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. How many Angelfish could fit in my 30 gallon tall tank? I definately like the blue rams. I've always liked angelfish. So angelfish are definately a possibility. :)
