suggestions to replace wonky air curtain

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the more area between water and air the more air diffuses into the water. just move one of the powerheads towards the top and point the direction of flow slightly upward so you get a slight rapids effect without splashing. no noise and plenty of arration in the water. no bubbles required. thats what i do and none of my tanks have oxygen problems.

thanks for the advice, ill move one of my powerheads near the top, i assume the top of the powerhead needs to be under water ?

how can you tell if you have enough oxygen just by the healthy fish or can you test for oxygen ?

i dont use a bubble wand for the oxygen added i use them so the fish have something to play in and it breaks up the back ground of the tank.

i have switched the air bubbles off and i have a nozzle attachment on my powerhead that direct flow to the surface, so ill see how it goes, the backdround does look bare but its quieter without the bubbles and air pump running. :)

also some of the fish like to swim in the bubbles but if i feel the fish prefer the bubbles i may put them back on :grinno:

fish dont really need bubbles as long as they have another decoration to keep them busy. as long as the water is moving/rippling or something they should have enough oxygen. if you see their gills moving a lot then you may want to consider pointing the powerheads up more or bringing back the air pump.

well 24 hours with 1 powerhead rippling the water and all is well, im getting used to the quiter tank with no air pump or bubbles, the fish still seem happy enough

i have just set up my xp4 rena external filter, its really quiet, so im using the spray bar to ripple the water surface as well as 1 powerhead so this should be plenty and its much quieter than it was before using the fluvals and the air bubbles
