I have a sand substrate an I'm wanting to put some plants( more like grass) in the bottom of my tank is there anything that would only grow like 3''s or less so it would be easier to maintain so i wouldnt have to constantly prune I seen a tank that looked like it had some sort of grass in it but dont know what kind it was or how much maintenence it needed.

yea it literally was full of many small blades an looked ver nice I dont have live sand(can alge grow on live sand?) Kuz Im getting alge growing on mine(non-live sand) thats why I want to put in some sort of bottom grass os something I think it will look very nice, Kinda like the grass type pictured here it not very long an looks great.

Hi, check out cobra grass, acorus sp and blyxa sp. Abit more 'grassy looking' than chain sword, but chain sword is probably the easiest to grow!

Good luck!

how many of the "grass"'s suggested would require premium lighting

So why would I go from not having virtually no alge to having alomost 80%
of my non-living sand covered in this this flourecent green looking alge, I dont
really care that its there but now I no longer have my white sand but noe have a
all green covered bottom.

I`m not sure about individual requirements for each type, but I do know that they are quite difficult to grow. I needed some medium to low foreground plants for a low light low tech tank recently and ended up choosing dwarf sagittaria because it one of the easiest to grow. Blyxa sp are probably the most difficult out of those I mentioned.

As for the algae, is it slimey and smell really bad? If so it could be a type of bacteria which blooms when water conditions deteriorate.
If not, and it is algae, well it could be any one of the following:

1. Increase in lighting.
2. Increase in fish feed.
3. Decrease in water changes or %.
4. Clogged filter/media.
5. Could of been brought in on recently purchased, undipped plants etc etc. The reason for algae blooms and how to stop it are discussed in the stickies. You`d be better off reading it for yourself.
