So I have a 36g (bowfront. I know, not the best footprint :irked:) tank at the moment, with...one fish in it. :) I have a feeling that one fish is going to stay in it :cry: So, I've been looking for a few months now for a big saltwater tank, to no avail.

I finally got really pissed off with a guy selling a 350 gallon tank with sump, stand, skimmer, powerheads, uv, lights, even 350lbs of live rock and sand for $500. We called him right when he put up the ad, and he basically said, "Oh yeah, come get it tomorrow. We'll give you a call at 3?" And during this conversation my dad told him he had to catch a flight at 8 in the evening...So this..."Digging hedgehog" (no one will get that reference. If you do, well...grats.) said that's fine and he'll make sure to call him at 3.

Guess who didn't call until 7:30? :irked:

So my dad was all pissed and told him off and then we didn't get it because my dad was away....And so now I've admitted defeat after about 4 of these stories have gone by.

SO, I have this 36 gallon tank. No room for a sump, so no room for a skimmer, I don't have any powerheads on it right now, so it is...very...very dirty :D But you can enjoy this picture below with "Killer" in it.

So my question is....What could I do with it to make it look GOOD? And how? I've kind of grown to Killer, and don't want to see him go. He would be fine with some inverts, I know...But there aren't any interesting inverts I like. Care to direct me to some?

Corals, I know I can do soft corals with this light fixture I know of...So I think I probably will do that.

So, my list (feel free to edit it and personalize it in your own way, as that's what I'm asking of you. :))

- Powerhead x 2 (some koralia product I'm thinking)
- Light fixture (http://www.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-24in-Metal-Halide-with-T5-Extendable-Serie-p/54244.htm - with this I know I could probably do some lps? or http://www.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-48in-4x54W-T5-HO-Light-Fixture-Extendable-p/52303.htm for softies :))
- Clean up crew (not sure of a specific package I could buy ?

Oh btw, I know a bubbler in a saltwater tank isn't the best thing, and that was removed about the fifth day after I put it in ;)

That picture is just after I added the fish. and...after he killed everyone else.

I would think that three of the smaller koralias would work very well for a tank like this. The 298w MH fixture that you have posted would be enough to grow anything you want on this tank. As far as a cleaner crew goes, for a tank like this I would do something like: 3 Turbo Snails 10 Astrea Snails 10 Blueleg hermit crabs And then maybe some sand sifting stuff. I would also look into an AquaC skimmer if I were you. They are hang on tank, and are very beginner friendly. Not to harsh on the pocket book, yet very high quality. After that I might just run another hob filter with just whatever chemical media you wanted in there. For your tank I would suggest 100ml of purigen or possibly chemi-pure. (Get the stuff in the black tub, it has a phosphate remover in it in addition to the regular chemipure stuff.)
 
Well I kind of want the tank to look good...with nothing really sticking out the back...I could, in theory, get away without a skimmer. Right? I mean, yeah, maybe more water changes and more water tests, but it's not NEEDED.

I think I may go for that mh fixture then. ;)
As for that purigen stuff, I think that would definitely be an investment I would want to make...And the clean up crew sounds good too. Thanks flesh hah.

So three powerheads would be best? Think I could get away with two? haha
 
Ok, so, I was just about to get my dad to bring out his credit card, when I decided to check the measurements again...
And the mh fixture wont fit on my tank. My tank is a bowfront with the widest point being 18 inches, and the sides are both about 11 inches deep...The fixture is 15" deep.

The t5 lighting unit (http://www.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-48in-4x54W-T5-HO-Light-Fixture-Extendable-p/52303.htm) WILL fit though, so what could I grow with this, and how restricted would I be?
 
You could get away with 2 powerheads, but the more the better to have flow in many directions.

I think a skimmer would go a long way as well.

You should be able to grow some softies with the T5 fixture.

The bubbler/air stone are necessarily bad, particularly if your tank doesn't have high filtration/a skimmer/powerheads. It helps greatly in oxygenating the water and keeping it moving. The bad side of it is mostly salt creep from the bubbles bursting at the waters surface.
 
Alright...I'll do the T5 fixture then!

I might be going to pick up 7 powerheads for 20 bucks this guy is selling downtown...Of course I wont put all 7 in the tank haha. That might be a bit overkill.

lol yes most likely. But depending on the size of them and how much water they actually move you could use up to 4 of them.
