Hey all this has probably been asked a lot but what cat will I be able to keep with a male jag (still young) in a 120gal? Preferably one that's not too expensive

Cheers, Tom

My cichlid knowledge leaves much to be desired but I naively think that the jag should not bother any medium sized catfish as long as it does not fit in the jag's mouth. It probably be better for the catfish to be a bottom dweller.

Pimelodus blochii, sun catfish, medium Doradids, pleco, synodontis come to mind.

Personally I would lean towards Doradids, plecos, synodontids
I know jags can be pretty aggressive, but since OP's jag is still young he could probably get away with a P. blochii or H. brachystoma like TBTB has stated
I know this fish is rather uncommon, but I feel a Rhamdia species could would as well specifically quelen or nicaraguensis as those are two species you would probably find

if you want to keep something like a bottom dweller with a jag, esp a male looking to an armored fish. gibby plec or common sale fin. your usual cats well get tore up. my large, 12" plecs have no problem even with my large male jags. but I would not put my 13" plus sun cat in with them.

I've had a look and my lfs has raphaels, pictus and I think cuckoos. I know pictus arent synodontis or doradids but will they and the cuckoo eventually get eaten?

Ok I'll look into that as well

personally I love my plecos, keep my glass and wood cleaned up, just know that they poop in ropes so, good vacuuming every week a must, to me its a fair trade off.
