suitable catfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A lima may work, but to correct the prior poster they are not stunted, their max size is 18 inches. In a 125 you could do it if you don't have too much decor and the fish has a place to turn around and sit comfortably at that size.

HEY update. I actually also bought a lima shovelnose. It's a true lima, not the elongatus. I know it's fine in the 125, and probably also for life, though I have EVERY intention of upgrading at least to a 220. SO, and I've looked everywhere, I can't find much info on these guys. I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions:

1. The lima is maybe 4.5-5 inches right now. He's absolutely adorable. They almost certainly grow faster than clown loaches. Most of my clown loaches are about the same size as he is, but I have one that's still pretty small. maybe 3-3.5 inches. Will he eat this loach? That would totally suck.
2. The lima is schooling with the pim cats. He loves them. I was wondering if I could put a 2nd lima in there, as I was considering moving the pims to my 55 this spring.
I'm doing a decent move around, and I want to have just a few larger cichlids in my display, and hopefully a pair of lima. My decor is basically 2 or 3 nice driftwood pieces, then i'm doing some rock caves stacked on top of one another, and a few scattered plants, with a small corner of the tank planted a bit heavier so he can hang upside-down like a russian cosmonaut. Will this environment work for him?
3. As far as diet goes, and money is no object when it comes to my fish, what would be best best best? I've got all manner of frozen and omega one pellets. I've heard they are somewhat finicky.

That's all.

Black Lancer or sun cats are a good choice for your 125. Cukoos are nice but there a little smaller than you like(around 4 inches). they might be nice in your african tank though. they're from Tanganyka so they will not get bullied to death by african cichlids. just be careful If your breeding your africans cause the cichlid fry may be replaced by catfish fry.
