I have a new 80 gal bowfront tank and i have to buy a filter for it i perfer canisters. i have two fluvels one on my 55 and one on a 30 and they work quite well but i can get a hold of an ehiem for almost a lower price that a fluvel for the 80 which is better? and is there a better canister for this tank. Please bear in mind i have a 8 inch GT and a 7 inch Red devil, along with a 4 inch convict, 3 clown loaches and two plecos. I wanted to post this here because who knows strong filtration better than SA cichlid owners?:D

canisters are nice, and i would go wit a magnum 350 pro and probaly 2 ac 500s.One magnum 30 should take care of them. But u can extend the magnum 350 tube towards the bottom and keep the ac 500s at the top so u will have real good circulation,of filtrations;)

Wow, holy overstocked tank batman!!!!

Anywho, have you considered a Rena XP3 for the tank? I am using them on a couple of my tanks and I am very impressed with them so far. However with your bioload you may want to consider two of them.

I also like the combination of canisters and hobs. The canisters are extremely efficient when it comes to biological filtration, and the hobs work well for mechanical filtration. In my canisters, I remove the carbon bag, and fill all the cartridges with floss. On my 125, I have two Cascade 1000's that do 265 gph, and an emperor 400. Soon I will be adding another emp for mechanical filtration. The canisters are also super quiet which is a huge plus if you have a tank in your living room, or bedroom area.

eheim is definately the best IMO eheim is numer one another great filter is Rena Filstar. I would run 2 rena xp3's on that tank. You are going to want to heavily over filter that heavily overstocked tank. I would even consider two canisters and a large HOB filter.
