Looking for an opinion (or several) on whether or not a certain tank would be suitable to house a pair of Oscars for life. The tank in question is 34” long by 24” wide and 20” tall. Total volume of water in the tank is to be about 65 gallons. Tank will be filtered in line with 2 other tanks of identical volume for a total water capacity of about 300 gallons. I know the individual tank isn’t large enough for the Oscars but I figured that with the filtering methods I would be able to keep water quality above sufficient. My real question is if the Oscars could enjoy a good life in a tank with those dimensions. Any help would be appreciated.

Nope. Not even suitable for one Oscar IMHO. You could get away with a pair in something like a 125 but then you are drastically limited on anythign else you can add to the tank...

i dont think that they would, while it is wide enough for them to be able to easily turn they wont be able to really swim that much once full grown and if there are any disputes than the one getting chased will have no room to get away, even with that kind of filtration i think that the tank would need to be at least 4ft as a really base minimum, i personally wouldnt do it in less than 5ft of tank just because of their sheer size and need to have space from one another, if they feel cramped then they may just fight

34" isn't a lot of space for a big cichlid, dicus or angels would be fine though

yeah like said discus or angels would be sweet, you could also do pairs of salvinis, ceibals, sajicas, etc fish that stay 10in or under and aren't too aggressive could be kept comfortably in that length of tank, you could keep a single specimen oscar but not a breeding pair

The three tanks will be lined up horizontally with about a foot between them. I thought of doing 1 oscar on each end tank and maybe a smaller SA cichlid tank in the middle. That is of course if I really felt the oscar would be ok in the tank by themselves. We'll see, I just dont want to put a fish in a tank that isn't right for it, there is a wide enough selection of fish that I can find something to work.
