Hi guys,

I'm new to cichla and just trying to put a bit of a plan in place for the future.

I currently have 3 4 inch cichla ocellaris in a 7' * 2' * 2'.

Would anyone have an estimate for how long this tank should do them? I'm guessing maybe 2 years?

Would an upgrade then to 8' * 3' * 2' be suitable for them then or will I need to go bigger?

Sorry I know ye get a lot of these posts but just trying to get a good plan in place because want to be in it for the long haul.

Tank mates are a silver aro, clown knife fish and a few cichlids.

Thanks,

Alan.

the final tank would be huge, i wouldnt want a full grown peacockbass or arowana in anything less then 150-200 gallons each. im no expert but i would guess 800-1000gals once full grown for all those fish. comfortably anyways.

fortunately you've got one of the smaller species when full grown and even smaller in captivity.. an 8ft. tank would be just fine for life.. remember your fish are growing up in a contained environment not the wild so don't expect anything near wild sizes.. I've opened this can of worms many times but, you'll be lucky if your ocels make it over 20in each.. 16-18in. in more to be expected.

Yeah I'd say a 8 x 3 x 2 would be a good size for those fish... and like tampa said, dont listen to people that say your cichla will grow to be 4foot lol, they wont.

All about the width of the tank. These fish love their swimming room. But anything from 400 gal plus for 3 should do you good for a long time
