My tap is 74º-78º. I am adding it to 82º-84º water and it always equalizes out to about 76ºF. I am not overly concerned about this as I have done this for years without detrament...however....
I would NOT recommend this to ANYONE. My OPINION is simply that fish arent going to die from a fluctuation of a few degrees during a water change. Again, my opinion.
Also, my tap water isnt very cold, not like your well water. You can stress your fish by shocking them with rapid water temp swings, but during a water change its a fairly gradual process.
I do, very strongly, believe in properly acclamating a fish before dropping them into a tank, like bringing a fish home from the LFS.
