I've had my 2 Turquoise Severums for about 10 months and the Golds for about 5 months. They have always been beautiful and active.

Suddenly all four are now sulking and not eating. Three of them are even hiding behind my large driftwood. Every other occupant of the tank appears to be just fine. Only the Severums are acting this way.

Is there a disease that only Severums are susceptible to? Just seems weird that these are the only fish in the tank showing this behavior.

They have been doing this for 2 days now.

Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 10-15

The weekly 25% water change was 3 days ago. I still have some water from that change in the aging tank. I will test it tonight to see if something is out of whack I guess.

Yeah, I guess it could be a contamination of sorts... Is there anything around your aging tank that could have "made its way in" somehow?

Severums can be quite sensitive to water conditions, so if your other tankmates are hardy fish, that could explain it.

Are the Africans male/female . Is it possible they are putting the hurt on the Severums ? Although they are not overly aggressive species for Africans they could be picking on the Sevs , how old are they , as they may have reached maturity and are becoming more aggressive .

Aging tank tests fine and nothing out of the ordinary around it. Everything in the tank is 10 months old or younger. The Aceis are always hiding in their caves yet healthy and come out to eat (they don't bother the Sevs). One of the yellows will chase every now and then if his territory is invaded but with a 300 it's easy to leave him alone.

Double checked my water parameters last night also:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 12 (barely darker than 10 on the color chart)

I'm just really stumped. Unfortunately the largest of the Turquoise Severums passed away yesterday. The remaining Turquoise and 2 Golds are still sulking. It's like one of them caught the Flu and gave it to the other 3.

I gave the fish a light feeding this morning and EVERYBODY but the Severums came out to eat. Again :(

Update:

The remaining Turquoise Severum appears to be doing better. His fins are no longer all folded up and he even came out to eat last night!! Still a little slow moving though.

The two golds are still sulking and not eating. Still no outward signs of disease and all the other fish in the tank still go on as healthy as can be.

Water change, water change, water change.

Sounds like your water params are good, but i'd still play it on the safe side, increase the water movement too, in case somethings been introduced along the line.

Always a head scratcher when fish croak for no reason. Hopefully the rest pull through

Thanks. I'll do another 25% tonight and 25% again on Sunday. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
