Sulking Severums Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
While doing water change I noticed that the water in the sump was much cooler than the aging water.

My controller (bio-therm) was showing 79 degrees and the aging tank thermometer was showing 79 also. My freaking bio-therm was 10 degrees off!!! The tank was actually 69 degrees.

I put the aging tank heater in the sump and have over the weekend brought the tank back to 77 so far.

The Turquoise Severum appears to have made a comeback but the Golds still are not looking very well.

I'm looking for a new controller today and NOT another bio-therm or won-brothers. Errrr.

New Ranco controller is on the way!

And both Gold Severums came out of hiding this morning and looked a little better. They didn't eat but at least they hiding in a corner pointing towards the sky anymore.
The Turquoise is looking real good now and even eating again.

I manually plugged in the titanium heaters this weekend to get the tank back up to around 79 degrees then unplugged them before bed time. Over night I put a Stealth 250w in the sump set on 80 degrees. The tank showed 78 degrees this morning.

Hopefully I can maintain temperature this way until I can get the Ranco installed.

Thank goodness for a highly insulated sump and acrylic tank.

PS. If you are thinking about buying a Won-Brothers/Bio-Therm controller don't do it!

Probably talking to myself but the Ranco is installed and works perfect. I should have bought it in the first place.

The Turquoise has made a 100% comeback. One gold is about 90% and starting to eat again. The remaining gold comes out now to swim but only occassionally eats. Looking good though.

Question: Do you normally do only 25% water changes?

If so, how do you keep your nitrates so low? How old is your test kit?

Test kit is about 6 months old. I'm assuming nitrates stay so low because I have 500 gallons of water and none of my fish are full grown yet.
