Sultaca Tortoise?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what kind of terrarium?
westAfricanspurs in doors use Mercury vapor bulbs on them its heat and uvb in one as they grow you will just have to add more bulbs to the indoor setup to properly cover his whole body when basking
if he can see out like a glass fish tank you may want to cover the bottom 3-4 in with a cheap window film or aquarium backer just around the bottom like a little fence this will stop hes urges to try to walk through the glass they always think the grass or glass is greener on the other side.

Pyramiding can be caused by a number of things, the number one factor is calcium deficiency but the causes can range from dehydration to liver problems...
Sulcatas do, however, thrive in Fl. I know many keepers that house them in outdoor pens and have done so since they were hatchlings. Some are over 30 years old and huge and healthy.

My biggest worry would be the increasingly colder winters we are having. Would be worth it, in my opinion, to build a heated winter home for them.

80lbs? thats big! i want mine to get HUGE already. mine is at around 40lbs. had it for almost 4 years. it actually just came to our house one day and we kept it since. but awesome pets. my dream tortoise is the aldabra but you need a large land for those.

yup, I've had him for about 20years :]

I understand you want to learn more info about sulcattas, I would recommend you pick up a few books on the subject, visit tortoise forums, etc... I mean your asking about tortoises on a forum called MonsterFiskKeeper.com, not MontsterTortoiseKeeper... not to knock on anyones advice... but I get a little bothered when people ask for tips and advice from people who manly keep fish (and yes I know a few keep reptiles and other extoics),
