just bought this pleco for my 50 gl tank..i payed 50$ at the lfs probably got ripped off as usual, i'm a sucker, i know that but if there is something i like i buy.anyways i put him in yesterday morning and he is still not on the glassjjust hiding under the holy rock i dropped some wafers down and he still not going for it! he is a expensive little guy and don't want him to die..before i end up choking the owner if he does die... any help or ideas:nilly:

Plecos, never really come out, until night time, that is what I notice about mine honestly, maybe once every day it will come out when its bored inside the log.

Give it a few days to settle in.

Plus these guys don't usually hang out on the glass like many other plecos do. Get some frozen krill or tilapia fillet to feed it. They also like carrots and green peas.

I've had a better response from them with krill. The smell from the krill really brings them out.

Easiest way to tempt new carnivorous/omnivorous plecos-- frozen blood worms or brine shrimp.

A healthy pleco can go weeks without eating if it needs to, so I don't think a couple days without eating is going to hurt.

Good advice if the L264 was a carnivore, but it's not. Not really an omnivore either although they do like occasional meats like krill, which is a favorite.

More of an herbivore than anything. Mine eats more algae than anything else and loves diatoms. Loves cucumber, zucchini, potatoes with occasional wafers and pellets, and relishes krill.

Generally takes a week or so to settle in. Very nocturnal and likes to stay hidden during the day. As a general rule of thumb, I find most plecos seen making sorties during the day are usually not getting enough nutrition. Most happy loricariids will eat and be most active at night. Try feeding after the lights are out.

I installed lunar lights on both of my tanks because it's the only way I get to see them.

And yes, fish can go weeks without food. Watch for a sunken belly and sunken spots behind the eyes. Patience and a stress free environment are key. Good luck. Wonderful fish once settled.

just a quick observation..You mentioned the pleco is hiding under holy rock.isn't holy rock a rock that will make your ph very alkaline??

This, by definition is an omnivore. I've kept many different Leporacanthicus species, and they are all omnivorous. Zucchini does works great with them, but they love brine, krill and bloodworms occasionally, too.

Not with my experience with my old breeding colony of 12 sultans at one point... they avoided any veggies as much as possible. I had them in the same tank as panaques/other herbivores and they didn't even touch the veggies.

They're carnivores for sure. Went super nuts for bloodworms. Krill wasn't their favorite in my experience compared to other feeds I had though.

Now i'm starting to miss having those guys in the tank, $50 isn't a bad of a price for a sultan in my opinion from a pet shop.
