Summary of a western hognose bite

Let me get this straight.... there is a hog nose snake actively chewing on his hand, and he paused to take its picture!!!!!!


That swelling is insane!
 
Most true herpers will always stop to take pics if it's not going to kill them ;)
I have a carpet python latched onto my hand and wrapped around my arm once and all i could think was getting to my camera before he let go! of course as soon as i snapped the pick the little retard let go of me and i got was blood.
 
This guy seems to have had a bad reaction. I have been bit by an eastern and a western hog nose- neither of the bites were half this bad though. Maybe its because I didnt let the snakes chew on me for so long though. Interesting article.

What purpose does this serve? Do they do it as proof that they were bitten?

I understand the purpose of documenting the post-bite effects. I dont see the validity in taking a picture of it going nom nom nom on your hand for 5 minutes.

Bragging rights - that's why I did it anyway. That's all the evidence I have that I was ever bitten.

Is there any reason to get bitten by a pet snake that doesn't involve "screwing up"? I mean seriously, you get bit because you weren't careful enough, didn't read your animal right, didn't take the proper precautions, weren't paying attention, in general screwed up.....


Why would you brag about screwing up?:screwy:

When my own stupidity causes me or others harm I am embarrassed, even ashamed, I don't brag about it.
 
I have sometimes let things bite me to see how it feels. Nothing venomous of course but when I first got into snakes I let my gopher bite me so that I could no what to expect and not be worried about it anymore.
