Well, they are more unique and I rarely find them where I live so I consider them rare.

Theyll be fine as long as the temp doesnt get below 70-72 degree F out there. I would personally put an army of bristlenose plecos into it you would have virtually no algae issues all summer. but when winter comes they wont make it. Dont forget to check Ph plecos dont like it to high.

First Question:

Is it legal?

Second Question:

Are you willing to risk losing them to acts of God such as flooding, heatwaves etc or the sudden cold snap?

I'm planning on putting some stock tub out this summer and trying out a species of cories and catfish along with CPDS and see how it goes.

ok ...... you live in california that is a point of entery for the hobby
i live in michigan that is not a point of entery and i see them all the time
so i will tell that time to time "your rare plecos" could be bought at pets supplies plus

I am sure its legal because my pond is not connected to any streams or river. It is a above ground pond.

Yes.

:)

I live in Orlando and my only local fs is petsmart so everything I see is rare lol

I think you'd be fine with some more less common plecos. Commons might be seen a bit more but can get huge. As long as you figure out the dietary part of the equation you should be fine in your pond.
