summer native tank project!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They aren't catfish, i know that as the only species of catfish in nebraska are channel, black and brown bullhead, flathead, blue and white, which it looks like none of them, or juvis of them.

i've looked on endanged fish in nebraska, looks like none of them. Its a pretty safe bet. I'll learn what they are before i get some this summer, but i'm just saying as to my stocking.

Alot of you guys out there collecting natives should not be. You should stick to purchasing fish.

Amen to that.....and add herps to the list of things people should not be screwing around with without proper ID and knowledge of laws (I.E. wild catching frogs without ID for bass feed)

Missed stonecat, tadpole madtom, and yellow bullhead. White BTW are introduced and not native to the region..

stonecat aren't around here, and madtom i know it is not

Ummm. yes they are...Stonecats are common and Tadpole madtom are a frequent fish in correct habitat on the eastern side of the state. Distribution obviously can vary if the habitat needed does not exist. you however said:

This is not quite accurate.

I have been thinking of doing an idea sort of like yours. .... The nature setup not the catfish thing.

deffinatly NO bass, i am not really a fan of them....and stonecats aren't located anywhere around where i am.

i listed only those because those are really the only catfish (missed madtom) that are in the area.....whitecat might not be too much, but i know i've seen one caught.

anyway, it doesn't really look like any juvi catfish, so i'm pretty certain it is not....gunna wait for summe before i get an ID on it and perhaps put it in my tank, or let brothers 14" oscar inhale it

Then next time try saying that instead of "the only catfish in Nebraska are"
Those are not the only catfish in Nebraska. Because you have not seen them BTW also does not mean they are not there.

What type habitat are you catching these "catfish" / "non-catfish" in??? River? stream? Riffle? open lake? weedy lake? or what? A name of a specific drainage would help in narrowing down what is there...

small river, more like a stream. called the Elkhorn river, near Norfolk Nebraska. I might not do natives anymore....change my mind a lot.
