Ok looking into ordering glass to make my own all glass sump. Question being the union on the bottom of the sump. Do the sides sit ontop of the bottom?

That is what I've got in mind currently but I'm not sure if its correct.

Also wondering if this would work as a silicone only joint assembly/design? Or would I need to reinforce with a wood frame? I was thinking with the baffles it would be fine with no frame.

Awaiting a quote for these thicknesses: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" My friend knows the glass guy and thinks he can get us a deal. I'm waiting to see, at any rate I'll be buying the baffles. I looked for the dims I'm going for and places like glass cages are pretty pricey. Dims like my sump would be about 800 dollars. I'm hoping I can half that (probably not though) At any rate I know its a goofy dim but I wanted room to stand the bio-towers I'm gonna add in eventually.

It's almost certainly cheaper to buy a pre-made tank. If you need extra height for the tower section you could just silicone some acrylic on the sides of the inside of the tank? Just a thought.

Well I looked up my dims on glass cages and they want 700 dollars for those tank dims(baffles not included). The sump needs to be wide to accommodate two bio-towers in addition to the standard baffles and filtration.

The quote from the glass guy came in at 500 dollars for 3/8" glass and 700 dollars for half inch glass (That includes the cost of the baffles)

What glass thickness do you guys think I would need? And do you think I could build this with silicone as a rimless design or is there some special trick to that?

With the baffles siliconed in the center you should be fine with 1/4" glass.

I think would find it stronger to place the bottom piece on the inside of the walls not under them. I had a tank repaired and it was built with the walls on top on the base and the tank repairer told me it was built wrong due to the pressure applied by the water from the inside.

This is correct. But......it doesn't really matter either way. Both will work just fine.
