Sump design question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never used filter socks but plan to on my next set up. Mt thought is that with a messy turtle i can change them out quickly and wash a few at a time in the washing machine with some bleach. If the sump is designed to change out the socks easy. Figure get a 200 micron or soo and see how it goes.

Decide which micron size cleans your tank well enough and doesn't need changed too often. I'm tired of opening my canister all the time just to clean the sponges and pad from my messy turtle.

I hear you. I completely clean my canisters every other week and they are always filthy. I am going to have to start cleaning them more often, but it is such a pain.
The good thing is that my water params are normal, but I still hate cleaning the filters so much.

If your building a sump and want something super easy to maintain, look into a simple drawer system. Here's mine when I first built it. Very customizeable and CHEAP!

maintaining it is as easy as pulling open a drawer and changing out the floss once a month. Get my floss from a fabric store dirt cheap. Less than $20/year. These drawers come in many sizes.
