I've got problems with my sump and over flow. I am running a Mag 18 in a 35 gallon sump. This is plumbed with 3/4 pvc with 2 intakes and 2 outflows. I have valves on all the lines but can't get the flow just right so that the pump doesn't pump water to fast or that the overflow isn't putting to much water into the sump. I have now been battling this since i set it up. What can i do?????

not to familiar with the mag 18 but the pump cant pump more than overflow that is going to the sump. You either need to add an overflow box so that more water is pumping out than is pumping back in or get a slower pump.

No adjustment is necessary...

Ensure the drainage capacity is greater than the pumps.

Then both will flow at the speed of the pump.

Ok so if i put a smaller pump that flows less than the overflow then the system should work right?? Im not totally clear??

Exactly.

You could also place a T (with a ball valve) to return to the sump part of the water being pumped into the main tank.

One 3/4" PVC should give you around 330GPH (nominal maximum but in truth expect lower than that considering the loss produced by "twist and turns"). So I figure two 3/4" PVC overflow should give you around 500GPH. A Mag18 works at 1,800GPH so there lies your problem.

Ok so i put on the smaller pump but still ran into issues. The overflow is dumping to much water into the sump for the sump to handle. The pump can handle the flow but at the beginning of the water just overflows back into the pumping space instead of going into the filter chamber. In the sump i have 1 inch piping with a 1" to 1 1/4 " coupling for the out put. Look at the photo that is looking down into the overflow. The overflow is taking in to much water and the pump is still draining the sump at the end. I don't know what to do!!!!!
