Yes there is another section behind the sump and the guy that i bought the tank from used this for saltwater so he had a skimmer and other pieces in there. This was a custom acrylic sump that the guy had made but i hate!!! The design!!! The sump has no room for wet/dry biological filtration. I think i'm going to build my own sump from a glass aquarium. Would a 20 gallon high be to small for the sump? If so i would use a 35 gallon. (by the way im only 14 so understand that these are my first sumps).

14 is a great age to start learning. It is also great to see that you are passionate enough to be exploring and asking questions relating to the hobby. You can learn everything you need to know from this forum as long as you are willing to listen to good advice. This site has a wealth of info as long as you are willing to try you can succeed even at 14.

If you can, take the sump out and take a picture of it from the top - this way we can help you analyse whether this particular sump is workable or not.

Might be able to save you some money - or you can get a cheap tank like the 35g and get some glass and tools and make your own - I can give you pictures of some real efficient and easy sumps to make. Making one is not as hard as you may think. The right tools and right materials is the key
