i want to make an indoor pond, and ive been reasearching filtration and i think a sump is the way to go, becuase its cheap and affective, but i have no idea what kind of filter media should go in each section, and where the heaters would go ect. so if anyone here uses a sump, please let me know where you put your media

filter floss or filter sock (I prefer the sock) > scrubbies or bio balls > heater > pump

I do the heater last to shoot the warm water into the tank and filter sock first to keep the scrubbies clean.

A sump is typically placed below the tank... Indoor ponds generally sit on the floor where there is no space beneath the pond...

It is not a requirement for the sump to sit beneath the tank/pond, but not doing so will change several dynamics. Research your plumbing before you research your media...

@ sponger_2, im guessing your the media man? lol, as the the sump/pond. i would put the pong on a stand to elevate it. so that wouldnt be an issue. thanks for the help, i think i figured it out now

If you wanted to leave the pond on the ground, you could put a pump in the pond or have it pull from the pond. Pump water up to the filter, and then have the water fall from the filter, back into the pond.

May be a bit easier than building a stand for giant pond.

I like this idea, beats raising the pond! I used Poret Foam in my sump along with 50 and 100 micron filter pads. THe only downside to Poret foam is the price but I think it worth it.

Where the heck did you get Poret Foam?! I cant find it ANYWHERE! Unless I want it imported from the UK. What did you pay for it and how much did you get for that$$$$? I saw a DIY project for a sump that I will use this foam in, as well as the sump I currently have.

If you draw the water up and out of the pond, down through the filter and back into the pond....you could make a waterfall.:naughty:
