sump help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cheese and rice ragin_cajun ragin_cajun . That info is sticky worthy! Unless you just copied it from a past sticky. I'm still a stickler for redundancy so I go with a sump plus canister combo on all my big tanks.

Op: good luck with your turtle build and welcome to MFK.

That's not a copy. I'm the originator, not an imitator. :)

Wow! Thank you! That actually makes sense I've been looking for weeks for some advise n within 12 hours I get that write up! Thank you I knew that I would have to design it myself as I'm a very picky bugger and this tank has to be perfect as it's my dream tank and will be spending the best part of £2000 on it by the time it's finished. I'm now gonna draw up some designs and post them on here to see what u all think and as to weather they will work but I think I've sussed it! (I really do hope so cos if I have I can order my tank!!)

Right here's my idea.....
This is only the water that will be taken from the display tank. The pipe on the left is the water skimmer and on the right is a bottom feed the idea is that should me pump fail my water should only ever hit a certain level before the syphon breaks. The pipework on the right will be hidden by an additional cupboard (as the basking bay is going to be separate from the tank for more swimming room

Would this work?

The (half built) stand you can see is going to be all tank were as the right hand side will be another cupboard which will be the same hight as the top of the tank, this is where the D3 light will be hung as the top of the cupboard will be there basking bay (a 3 x 2 ft basking bay may I add)
So any pipework that comes out of that right hand side will be hidden inside of it

The long reverse trap on the right will need to pull a full suction siphon.
Unless it is large enough to flow 600gph at zero head pressure. May be 3" pipe. It looks like your going to use it with a siphon break.
Keeping your drains behind a weir, simplifies the problem.
