i still can't figure out a filtration system for a pond i wish to build for my muskie. it will be about 18x10x6 or 18x8x6. the sump will be a smaller pond that leads into a stream then into the main pond. thanks for all your help.:):):)

anyone?

bome anyone have any info or any idvace

My experience is limited when considering a tank this big… I’ve filtered from small tanks up to 300 gal…
One thing I’ve learned is that after a certain point it becomes more about creating current to move waste to the filters… not so much about a bigger filter…
I think a 150 gal sump with @ around 1500 gph would be enough… although you’ll want other pumps in the tank to create the currents to prevent dead spots and push waste to the filter…
I simply avoid overstocking and this prevents most biological concerns…
You could plumb it pretty much however you like to give yourself the river like effects.

well i would have some kind of mechanical pre filter to get all the junk out then pump it up through a large gravel bed in the filter pond then fill the little pond with tones of plants and you should be good

Adding a stock trough 8'x2'x2' with the water from your main filter being pumped through pvc piping (drilled with lots of holes) laid along the bottom of the trough and up through a few inches of gravel and then over a rippleboard overflow into the stream or back into the pond will allow you to fill the trough with potted emergent plants such as hardy water lilies, cattails, swamp iris, etc. This is a great nitrate reducer and water polisher as well as giving added biofiltration. It will serve as a nice planted backgroung to the pond and even give you a place to rear crayfish or mosquito fish for use as feeders in your tanks.

ok thanks guys and gals.

If your smaller pond was downhill a little from the main one,you could work out some sort of gravity feed like an overflow into a collector to a PVC pipe into the smaller pond. Then just pump the water back up to the main pond at flow rates that match each other,so it stays level, just like a tank sump.Definatley jam it with hardy, fast growing plants like guppy suggested for all the filtration you can squeeze out of that space........

Good Luck.

ok thanks guys and gasl i come up with somting.
