Sump Not Fitting Under Stand! Suggestions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Drain the 180 g tank down to 1/4 full. take the brace out. put the 55g tank in. put the braces back on. And refill.

put a heater in the bucket(s)

Storage tubs mate.... I've kept fish in them for hours (with heaters) and HOB filters, just make sure the hot heater does not touch the plastic bin.

Is there any chance you can take the end panel off the cabinet and slide it in there? I made the right hand side panel of my cabinet removable for that reason.

... I was mainly just asking for ways in which I could do this without removing the tank or emptying...

Sell the 55g and buy a 75g. The 75g will fit and you will appreciate the space. Both are too tall and which ever you choose to use will need to be shortened. The bad news on the 55g is that most are tempered and can't be cut, drilled, or Chomperfied. I used a 75g for my sump and it fits nicely. I too had the brace issue but I took the 75g apart, shortened the front panel, and reassembled it inside the stand (piece by piece). It was nothing less than a serious pain in the butt, however nothing worth doing is ever easy. And it was definitely worth the trouble.

40g Long is only around 16" tall if height is an issue.. but probably not much help!

Can you remove the 180 from the stand and drop the 55 in from the top, correction don't drop place.

This is what i had to do but as you said the top is closed off but the bottom isnt so lift that bad boy up! I had to move a 220 by myself lol. I'm a bit inpatient and help wasnt fast enough haha. Some wood, a lever bar, some muscle, and you'll be done in so time.

I think your best option is to remove the finish boards from the end, leaving the framing in place and the slide the fifty five in and put back together, you could also keep it as a removable panel as already stated. I would however do a nice large wc to seduce the stress on the stand.
