sump or wet/dry?

Miller that's an extra sick setup. How are you keeping the submersed media from flowing into the bio ball section? What are you using for mechanical media in the first section?

Thanks.
Mechanical is a tray above the k1 with filter pads (cleaned or changed daily) and to keep the k1 out of the bio balls is a piece of acrylic with about 350 holes drilled in it at 5/16 if i remember correctly, just small enough the k1 wont go threw it.
soon i am going to drill the tank and mechanical will be in the overflow box and a full syphon bean animal to make it silent.

And if you check out the Pondguru page on youtube he tells you why biohome is the best i have never owned a media that can handle such a bioload just for reference i have 10 kilos in a 400 gallon koi pond and the water is rarely ever out of spec being ph, nitrites, ammonia and nitrates are almost always zero. Best buy i have ever made media wise.

What is the point in having so much biomedia? It's only going to hold as much beneficial bacteria as needed to handle the bioload in the tank, be it a small basket of biomedia or ten lbs. of biomedia.

I just don't understand why you would want so much.

Insurance. In case someone overfeeds. Or if a fish dies while on vacation and no one sees it until you return. I had this happen, a blood parrot died inside a pirate ship ornament while I was in Costa Rica. Had to of been dead for several days, maybe a week. Tank and house stunk to high heavens when I returned. I Noticed the missing fish, lifted the pirate ship and half rotted foul carcass. Without massive bio, every fish would have been dead. He was the only casualty.

I realize it's very good media I just didn't realize it was that much cheaper. I'm going to order some this week!
