sump placement beside tank

the sump(purple rubbermaid) is for the hundred (top left)..
1.5" and .75" overflows drilled into the back.. rio 14hf (660gph at 4').. it sits at about 2'..
the sump is full of scrubbies, random sponge blocks, sheets of filter floss and prettymuch whatever else ive had kicking around.. tanks constantly tests at 0,0,20 which is better than my tap water so as far as im concerned it works great..
Heres my set up.... This is more of a room divider, but can be used for the same thing.
I have a tank below as well. the over flows go into the wet/dry which holds 7.5gals of bio balls, which then drains to the tank below. a pump then returns the water back to the top tank. An FX5 filters the top tank and is filled with sponges and biomax, and a fluval 405 does the bottom tank and is filled with the same.... both tanks have 300watt heaters.
If i didnt have the bottom tank, i would just do a basic covering for the stand, and have everything else in the side compartment.. i would add a sump for the wet/dry however... it works very well.

Here's a shot of my current 140gal set up. The small cupboard at the side has my canister filter in it, but it could easily hold a good sized sump.
