I'm starting a new sump and tank:nilly: and would like to include a planted section of the sump sort of like a refugium to take out some nitrates. So if you guys could suggest some plants that might work, that'd be great.

Indeed. Moss is probably your best bet. It really depends on how much money you want to out into lighting and such.

As mentioned earlier, an algae scrubber is another good option. If you're going to go through the trouble of lighting your sumo, you might as well go with the algae scrubber. The materials are super cheap, including the lights.

I wasn't really having a problem with the alagae I just wanted to see if it lowers the number of water changes needed because the plants will eat the nitrates from the rest of the sump. I guess I''l try the hornwort and java moss and if it grows well I suppose I got some more decor for my tank
thanks

i didnt get most of their answers also. Marimo balls are slow growing.

you want fast growing plants like water sprite, pennywort water lettuce, frog bit, even duckweed, guppy grass and so forth.

the problem with hornwort is it can shed and make a mess. it is a fast growing but once it sheds it can cause more problems then good.

pack it with moss. Java doesn't take much light to go.

Flame moss takes more light but my grew like weeds
