I wasn't really having a problem with the alagae I just wanted to see if it lowers the number of water changes needed because the plants will eat the nitrates from the rest of the sump. I guess I''l try the hornwort and java moss and if it grows well I suppose I got some more decor for my tank

lol. an algae scrubber has the same effect as a refugium for your nitrates. its not only if you have algae in your tank (but it will help with that too)
I've heard of people dropping to almost zero nitrate with the algae scrubbers, not just clearing tank algae. Thats probably the only method that will significantly reduce your water changes.
