I have a 240 gal tank with 2 2" bulkheads on top. I also have a little giant pump rated at 2000 gph. My sump is a rubber maid 22 gal. Im afriad the sump might overflow if my pump goes out, since the 2 2"bulkheads bring down a lot of water and the pump also brings down water when its off. I was thinking of buying a 60 gal since I can get them cheaper from a friend, but I have to fill it up alteast 35-40 gals up for the pump since its a sumbersible. Do u think if the pump goes out the 60 gal will handle all the water coming down until the bulkheads cant get anymore water?

get a check valve to put on the return side and you should be ok.

I do have a check valve, I actually have 3. My dad wants me to ask since hes scared if the power might go out while were sleeping and it just floods evyerhitng downstairs.

If you've got a check valve on the return side you're good. Test it.
Unplug the pump and see what happens:)

just a word of advice check valves drastically hinder flow especially on your return side. It will cut the GPH you pump is pumping by alot. Does your sump overflow with the water that is going into your overflow or your return line? If its your return line just drill a 1/8" hole in it just above the water line . then you don't need a check valve.

Where would I drill the hole for the return line? maybe i should take a pix of my plumbing and filter. If i do put a check valve on my return. My 2 bulk heads still bring down a lot of water. is there any way to solve this. I reduced the water but that just riuned the pump since the pump barely shoots any water out. Should i just stick with the 60 gal as a sump and put a check valve?

do take pics. How are you getting the water back into the tank? spraybar? also water will only come into the sump as fast as your pump pumps it. you can adjust this some by the water level in the tank. the bigger the sump the better but I would try to avoid the check valve.

Heres one bulk head drainage, and the one in the tank is the return

Heres the other side of the tank.

Where the water goes to sump, the wood and plastic thing is there to hold the pipe in place so it wont pop out.

The return pump
