Not to confuse OP by proposing more options, but in terms of pumps there are virtually "nth" number of options. I've not used pond pumps for aquariums sitting inside the house, but you may also want to consider "Aquarium DC pumps". Most are relatively quiet to any other pumps, you can control the water flow to your needs. You can do that with AC pumps, but most do that by adding a ball valve or gate valve.
Also, since you have the available pre-drilled holes for a closed loop, utilizing some even for freshwater is not a bad thing. Increases water movement for dead spots, moves waste around for better filtration. Most folks add powerheads later on, so using what is already there for you is an option too. That just means adding another pump and running the (PVC) piping. Just another option worth consideration, IMO.

Depends on you, and what you want.
I like inexpensive, and maximum real estate usage. In a 55 get sump, you should have plenty of room.

I looked more into the Bio Media and realized that it's way too expensive. I'm going with your recommendation and getting the Bonsai cactus Pumice mix 3.5 gallons for around $22 bucks with shipping. Probably gonna get a few orders of it and put it in media bags.

So a "few" at $22 is $44 or $66. 1 4 Liter bucket of Pond Matrix at $31 is less than that. But the Bio Media is too expensive? When you say "Bio Media", you mean the Pond Matrix I linked?
I can see getting the Pond Matrix for $31. And I can see getting 1 of the Pumice mix for $22 to save some money, hoping it's exactly the same thing as Pond Matrix. But, I can't see why you'd spend more money for more Pumice than you need, and submit as rationale for the decision that "Bio Media is too expensive".
