The OP said he had a "static" k1 chamber which I assumed meant not under any circulation from powerheads or air pump. Does the k1 in your totes just sit there or is it circulated anyway?
I'm lost when it comes to k1, I've done some limited research but I thought it was always touted as some kind of super efficient bio media, not a suitable media for in sump mechanical filtration.
So you have the reeflo 2hp hooked into just the 2" rfg? I was gonna use a 1.5" for a jebao dcp-20000, maybe half as powerful as your pump. I wish they made the modular loc-line in 1.5", 2" sizes like they do the 1". VCA is a really neat little company, I called them up once to correct a shipping error and me and the owner talked about tanks for almost an hour lol.
I guess it has some circulation because I have the drains in that one, they go throw some 5 gallon buckets with pond sponges in them I use as filter socks and I have an algae scrubber draining into the bin. I just looked at them and they are not moving that much if any. They clump up on the drain straner but I like that because I put them in to be used as a pre-filter filter. I think it works good as a pre-filter. Look at pond filtration on YouTube that's where I got the idea as they use it alot in ponds. I have eight 8 x 8 x 4 Is marine pure blocks, four 8 x 8 x 1 brightwell blocks and 2 brightwell ones that look like bricks. On top of over 500 pound of rock and over 450 pounds of sand so I have enough bio media lol. If you look there are different sizes of k1 I think I got k3 but one kind will be better for macanical filtration and one for bio filtration.
I agree with everything you said about VIvid creations, I called them to ask if they could do exactly what you said, make a 2" loc line they make the one inch. I think you should call or email them about this maybe if enough people ask they will Because that's basically what he told me is not too many people use the 2". Most of them are used in reef coral grow out tanks. He told me about a prototype that he made for a 4" public aquarium. I talked to him for about that long too lol with out the loc line it is hard to position it exactly where you want it as the fittings only come in 22.5,45,60,90 degrees where the loc line is unlimited. I would settle for just 2 segments so we can move it.
What size is your tank? I love jebao, I started this tank with a dct-18000 but that is only 5300gph at zero head I don't know how hight your tank is and how it is being configured but I would suggest
using as much flex pvc as possible to eliminate fittings,
Going 2 inch pvc as far as you can
Use a check vavle
Put vavle on output
Those rfg make a lot of head pressure. It's worth it also the Optimal flow rating for them is what is supplied to the nozzle not the output I could not find that spec but I thought it was like 2000 gph so if you are running one that pump might be ok but I don't think you would get the best result running two off them.
Another thing to think about is you're stocking I am heavily stocked and went from a dct-18000 to a reeflo hammerhead then to the 2hp because I needed more turn over. I could get my wavemakers to get the stuff up just not out to the sump. With ac pumps you can put a vavle on the output and adjust the flow. Believe it or not the pump gets more efficient if you back the flow down a little bit. ONLY AC PUMPS.
