After reading 100 X to make sure to give room for the back flow when pump is off i made sure to skew it up and not take it into account.

Now im at a loss on what to do to keep from washing out the dining room.

Cant take out the sump as its in the stand for life now and reworking all the glass would just be a pain in the ***.

Looking at check valves the true union looks like the one for me but can it be installed horizontal? yes i know im asking for issues but was thinking of cleaning it every month .

What other methods of pluming work could i do on the return to insure i have a fail safe setup?

Tank is clear view with built in center over flow and dual returns 3/4 lower

Wonder if i extend my return lines above my tank if it will keep the water from back flow and how high i need to do it. I can go about 9" above the tank as my top is 10"

Pump is a mag 9.5 and currently pushing 4' of head on 3/4 about 680 GPH on a 75G

You're getting too much water from the returns back siphoning when you turn the pump off? Why not drill small holes in your return nozzles where you want the water line to be when the pump is shut off so it breaks the siphon?

About 7G to much. Not sure how i would drill the return as its pvc to bulk head then ball socket joint to a y fitting then to 3" Flair nozels, That sit 2" under the watter line.

Your return holes are too low...Install a check valve on your return line base before it T's off and it has to be installed vertically in order for them to work. I looked into this before and asked. It will not work installed horizontal. Take note that check valves sometimes do fail...

loc-line is easily moved, so no need to drill holes just move your returns so they are even with the bottom of your overflow intake so when the powers off, the water will stop draining at that point.

Also lifting the return lines won't help as long as there still is a siphon, you need somehow of getting air into the return lines so they don't keep pulling water back to the sump.

Are your return lines to the main tank returning water below the main tank surface? And do you mean water is back siphoning thru he pump? If so, putting check valves on the return lines will stop back siphon. They can be installed horizontally.
If it is from the overflows, a "float valve" in the sump would work to stop water if placed just below the top of the sump.

Thanks for all the input guys.

The return's are what is siphon back through pump.

@ Hackjob thats what i was thinking after laying in bed trying to get ZZZ

Think i might need to sneak around fish stores to find some loc-line with some extensions along with the check valve .

One say vertical only others say no. If i can get install the check valve horizontal i could have ez access to it. For vertical install could only do it at the pump as it lifts out the sump as the other vert run is behind the center support of stand and wont have more then 1" from wall when it's at its final placement.
