if i were to have that return pump with that skimmer on the 55gal sump...i was thinking that if i had a micron sock things on the inlet to the sump the first chamber would have sponges, the second chamber would have lots of rubble rock and a hob filled with rubble rock aswell...then the next chamber would have the skimmer and a nother hob filled with rubble rock...the the last chamber would have the return pump to the tank...think that would be a good sump setup?

I would toss a light on it and some macro algea to comsume nitrates in one section. Also instead of the sponges i would toss in bags of ceramics.

Otherwise sounds good.

would bags of ceramics be better then just doing that section as a double rubble rock section?...what is macro algea? is that like an algea screen? or a hydroponics section?

Refugium, with macro algaes. Ceramics work really good in sumps.

do you think that i would need a powerhead in the macro algae section? i have read that they need high flow rates...or would the general flow of the sump being around 1200gph be enough?

I had to use my FX5 as a Return pump for my 35 gal sump on my 220 (custom). After searching for a couple weeks i founds Rio32hf on ebay for 70 bucks shipped. ITs a 1920gph @ 1' and abour 1400gph at 5' i believe. I have 2x 1"tubes flowing to the sump and i installed a ball valve to regulate the flow back to the max of the overflow. I added in some Media from my work which seems to work out well. For some reason i cant grow Moss i bought for it though... I added plant food but no dice... My first sump too so im up for suggestions too. I had a light on it but it went out about a week ago.
