I have my pump seperate from the rest of the media and refugium. It is seperated by a simple divider in the sump with a sponge filter at the top to prevent small debris from entering my pump.

if you were to have 5 water changes per hour in a 125 gallon tank. 5x125=625 So you would need a pump with a minium flow of 625 gph. The 3000 pump would be suffice because it flows 780 gph.

lol u overestimate me
i need like full instructions
think of you as the teacher, im a first grade student and you are trying to teach me algebra
also im just thinking would the 4000 be a big advantage? i know the 3000 would work but i want as much out of it as i can get.

the 4000 will work also the 5 to 1 is about the average for good flow in the tank. Depending on the fish you keep will also depend on the flow required. the 4000 will give you a flow of 8 to 1. and considering the height of the tank is 5ft at the top, the flow at the nozzle is still over 700 gph.
Did i lose ya?

For my sump I used a 20 gal long with acrylic dividers. I would recomend acrylic over glass dividers because of the ability to cut it is so much easier and drilling is also. After the filtration i made a refugium with live sand and macro algae. The pump is the last in the sump with its own conpartment. I have a small flourecent light above the refugium for the macro algae. I have a pic of it on my album if you want to see it.

do some searching.. theres about 60 billion DIY sump threads on this site...
