somewhere close to you...
I just got a 60 gal sump for my 240...previously I had a Rubbermaid appox 20 gallon....do I need to cycle my sump? not sure what I need to do?

should I just fill it with clean water?
should I let the water from my 240 fill it up and then just top off my 240 with clean water?

Please advise....

Rinse out the new sump with water only and add your old cycled media. Should be ready to go (atleast this is what I have done in the past with no casualties).

Depends on how you have the new 60gl sump set up also

I have upgraded many sumps and never had a problem, I have topped off both the tank and the sump with tap water. If you wanted to be super safe you would keep the bio media in an bucket of the told sump water. Hookup the new sump after cleaning, fill it with tank water; then and the bio media. From there just dose both the tank and the sump with prime, and re add water.

The prime will make sure your safe, and the addition of water to the tank, will have less heat loss.
