I would suggest not putting them with the JD at 1.5-2inch. The JD will probably rip them apart at that size. You can just grow out the suncats in a smaller tank since JD's usually don't get much bigger than 7in you won't have to worry about him growing much more, you could take your chances and put them in, but I wouldn't suggest it.

That's the correct term and a very good plan. Heavy feeding, well lots of small feedings, higher temps and lots of water changes.
Of course grow outs don't have to be that aggressive. You can grow out those cats pretty quickly if ya wanted too. You can kill them too, if your not diligent with the water changes.
