Would it be okay to feed them small chunks of trout fillets? I went fishing and caught some nice heathly bows' and have the fillets in the freezer right now. I couldnt really find anything about it on the internet so i thought id ask the experts lol. Thanks again

Yeah, the trout should be fine. Mine used to eat just about anything, cut shrimp, fillets, or earth worms.

Sweet thanks. Just got done feeding them and they went crazy for it. even when they had pieces in their mouth they still fought each other for it haha

also i have 2 catfish now, picked up another two days ago. and one more question, how would they fare with a tire track eel? I was thinking of getting a 180 for the catfish, my early stage flowerhorn and possibly the eel if it could work?

They may stress out the eel, if they try to move in on his hiding spot.

oh okay, sweet thanks for the info. I just thought id ask as my lfs has some nice looking eels. But i rather not risk it. Still got to add some pics

as has already been said, sun cats a relatively slow growers. mine grew probably 3 inches in a 6-8 month period, and that was with 2x daily feedings (a variety between shrimp pellets, blood worms and krill) and weekly water changes.

Hmm, interesting. Mine are about 2 inches id say. Ive been feeding meaty foods and pellets 2x a day with a weekley water change and an additional 5 gallon top off if needed. Im really only trying to get these guys to about 5 inches so when i move them they have a chance at eating. Thanks for the info though. Greatly appreciated

Mine 7 (4"-7") grew slowly. 1"-2" a year, maybe. They do better in groups.

Well despite the claims of slow growers, i have noticed tremendous growth on mine. In the 3.5 months ive had him, he has gone from 2-2.5 inches to almost 4-5 inches tail length!! :D I unfornately lost the other one to bullying a about a week ago :( but luckily i get paid friday and will pick up a couple more.
